MYNOR in OREGON

In May 2015 our dear friend Mynor visited Mike and I in Oregon for a brief but action-packed visit. Mynor is 1 of the directors of the Cooperativa Spanish School in San Pedro La Laguna on Lake Atitlán in Guatemala. He is 1 of our Beca Project advisors and Mike and I have built our little home, Ti Wachooch, on top of his family's home in San Pedro.

We are so grateful for this chance to share our neck of the woods with Mynor after so many visits to his home and surrounds on Lake Atitlán. Here are some highlights of the partial week he spent with us (a mix of his photos and mine); you can view the entire set of 100 photos on my flickr site by clicking HERE.

We started with dinner at McMenamin's Edgefield with Susie and Jennifer who are Beca Project sponsors and met Mynor (and their Beca students) last summer when we visited San Pedro together.

Then Mynor and I headed east and visited Multnomah Falls

as well as Starvation Creek Falls before arriving at our home in The Dalles.

The next morning we stopped at the Mt. Hood Ranger Station outside of Hood River

enroute to Timberline Lodge and Mynor's 1st opportunity ever to play in the snow.

He had an all American burger when we stopped for lunch at Charlie's in Government Camp before heading back down the hill to the gorge.

This nice barbecue on our deck with Mike's brother's family shows a stark weather contrast.

This is a view of Mt. Adams and the Columbia River gorge from our living room.

We also hiked a loop up the hill from our house with our dogs to show Mynor the orchards near our home and more of the views.

The next morning our son Carlos joined us as we got in the car and headed east, 1st exploring the wind energy explosion

and then Cottonwood Canyon State Park on the John Day River.

That evening we barbecued the salmon we  bought from Native Americans on the way home the day before

and then spent a pleasant evening focused on good company and s'mores.

On our last full day with Mynor we headed west to the Bonneville Dam and Bonneville Fish Hatchery to see salmon, trout, and sturgeon.

We fed the trout at the fish hatchery and this crafty bird could grab pellets out of the air before they hit the water.

Then we headed up the Eagle Creek Trail to Upper and Lower Punch Bowl Falls and Metlako Falls.

We had lunch at our favorite taqueria in The Dalles, Mi Pueblito.

visited the Gorge Discovery Center,

and had a no host pizza dinner with more than 20 friends and Beca Project sponsors at Spooky's Pizza Parlor.

Mynor got to shoot a shotgun for the 1st time

and got to meet my favorite hen, Gladys,

and my little cat Seven who he had previously known only in the photos I share with the Beca Project kids during home visits.

Our last breakfast together we made french toast waffles (a special invention of our son-in-law) before heading to the airport to send Mynor on his way.

We had a wonderful visit and hope he'll return soon with his family in tow. HAPPY TRAILS!
